Ebay - Paint Stripping

Post by PatrickB » Fri May 22, 2015 11:53 am

Hi Guys,

Something Richard said in another post got me thinking...

Clearly EBay brings a lot of joy to the wallet of many a hobbyist as mini's for less is pretty much always a bonus. However it brings it's fair share of challenges too... one of which is previous paint jobs...

Almost invariably previously painted Miniatures from EBay will either be sub standard or the wrong colour scheme or even both... does anybody know of a reliable method of stripping them back without compromising detail?

I've been using "Fairy powerspray" on Chris' advise.

It works fairly well at loosening the paint if you leave the mini in a pot of it for 24 hours but then you need a bit of elbow grease with a toothbrush to strip the mini.

I've used Dettol disinfectant to strip my plastic and resin Tau models. The original brown stuff, not the ones with added scents. Just left them soaking for a day then used a toothbrush and a warm running tap to brush all the paint off, it flakes right off!
